Among 11 University of South Florida faculty members recognized as 2024 Fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), two are from the USF College of Engineering. Join us in celebrating Professor Katkoori, from the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing, and Professor Sylvia Thomas, Vice President for Research & Innovation at the University of South Florida and President & CEO of the USF Research Foundation and professor within the USF Electrical Engineering Department.
Srinivas Katkoori was elected to the AAAS Engineering Section for his distinguished contributions to smart Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. His research focuses on the automated synthesis and optimization of secure, low-power, and intelligent digital nano-electronic integrated circuits for IoT systems.
Sylvia Thomas was elected to the AAAS Engineering Section for pioneering contributions to the field of electrical engineering, particularly for miniaturized devices and nanotechnologies for sensing applications, and for her efforts to broaden participation in STEM.
Election as an AAAS Fellow is a lifetime honor, recognizing exceptional contributions to science, engineering and innovation. AAAS — one of the world’s largest scientific societies and publisher of the Science family of journals — named 471 new Fellows across 24 disciplinary sections in its latest class.
Professor Katkoori, Professor Thomas and the other 2024 Fellows will be honored at a forum in Washington, D.C., on June 7, 2025. Each will receive a certificate and a gold and blue rosette pin, symbolizing the fields of science and engineering.
