ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS :

Maria Watson
Director, Global Facilities and Sustainability
Pall Corporation
Class of 2011maria

Maria Watson is a PCGS Class of 2011 alum, which is the college’s first graduating class. When asked about her experience at our college she said, “I graduated the inaugural M.A. Global Sustainability program in 2011, the program has a well-rounded approach to sustainability from public health, corporate responsibility, and engineering. The perspectives that were taught gave me a great foundation on which I built real-life experience in manufacturing environments. I look forward to sharing some very timely thoughts on how to maintain leadership in sustainability during times of public health crisis and I hope that future leaders can apply my sustainability leadership decision model to support sustainability within their own organizations.”

Watson will be returning to PCGS as a distinguished speaker in our sustainability speaker series this Fall 2020 semester. She will discuss her experiences in the sustainability field in her new role as the Director, Global Facilities & Sustainability, Pall Corporation. This year, our speaker series incorporates the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) in all presentations. Maria’s presentation aligns with the United Nation’s sustainability goal #13: Climate Action. Stay tuned for more information on our sustainability speaker series in our August newsletter.

Success lies in creativity in all dimensions. I encourage all PCGS students to always develop their skills as our degree in Global Sustainability and by extension, our career fields require us to monitor and be involved in current environmental issues. Because of this, I find myself in college again 5 years later when initially I thought I was finished in 2015. Suffice to say, you are never finished learning in the field of sustainability.

I vividly remember how PCGS exposed me to doing tons of theoretical research while simultaneously doing practical research at Disney World Epcot Theme Park. I would have never guessed there were sustainable initiatives I could learn there. I have kept this out the box thinking in my line of work today. I must be a researcher and observer to create innovative yet sustainable solutions to modern problems that generations before us were not faced with.

My new postgraduate degree in Land Management and Environmental Resilience ties together what I want my career to be. Global sustainability with a specific focus on water and land which encompasses ‘the environment’. Without my PCGS degree, I would not have had the employment opportunity I do now, nor the motivation to pursue another graduate degree in this exciting field.
