Ph.D. Integrative Biology

The Doctorate of Philosophy in Integrative Biology (Ph.D.) is designed to foster the development of technical and analytical skills used in existing and emerging fields of discovery. This program emphasizes learning and teaching about the interactions, across all scales, among humans and other diverse organisms in a range of environments.

These interactions mediate the resilience of natural biotic systems and enhance the sustainability of products and processes that are beneficial to ecosystems and consequently to human well-being. Thus, our mission is to create new knowledge and promote learning about ecosystem health and sustainability.

Degree Expectations

Degree requirements should be completed in 5 years. All degree requirements must be completed within a seven-year period after matriculation.  Students are encouraged to gain teaching experience in at least two undergraduate courses in the department . Dissertation should be of publication quality, and students are encouraged to publish their findings.

Prospective students looking to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Integrative Biology must choose from three areas of concentration:

• Ecology and Evolution (EEV)
• Environmental and Ecological Microbiology (EVM)
• Physiology and Morphology (PMY)
