Social work student receives APA Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship

Shelton Gilyard, Jr. is a doctoral student in the School of Social Work.

Shelton Gilyard Jr., a doctoral student in the School of Social Work, has accepted the American Psychological Association (APA) Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship. This fellowship supports the training of minority graduate students who are committed to improving the quality of care provided to ethnic and racial minorities who have a mental or co-occurring mental and substance use disorder. This fellowship works toward reducing health disparities among ethnic minorities in the U.S.

Through this fellowship, Gilyard will receive up to $23,000 stipend for one year, with the possibility of renewing the fellowship for up to one additional year. In addition to stipend support, fellows receive training, professional development, mentoring, and lifetime access to the organization's network.
