Shelton Gilyard

Shelton Gilyard earned both his BSW and MSW from the University of South Florida,  (USF) School of Work. He is a 2022 American Psychological Association Interdisciplinary Minority Program (IMFP) fellow. His research interest involves health disparities, early identification of autism spectrum disorder, access to mental health services, and research that promotes athlete wellbeing and the field of sports social work. He has presented at local, state, and national conferences including the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting (APHA) on topics related to best practices for treatment of autism spectrum disorders. Mr. Gilyard has published in the Childcare in Practice Journal. Shelton, a former Olympic level athlete, is an advocate for the wellbeing of athletes. He is also a member of the Alliance for Sports Social Workers. Shelton has extensive experience in training athletes of all abilities including individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
