Gerald C. Imaezue, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, along with doctoral students Celine Davis and David Ajayi, presented their work titled "Bridging Aphasia Care: Revolutionizing Self-Directed Treatments for Aphasia" at the Brain Injury Florida Annual Conference, held in Orlando, Florida, from May 22–23.

Their presentation focused on recursive self-feedback, an innovative technique in which individuals with aphasia use repeated feedback from their own speech to guide and improve communication skills independently. They highlighted how this method could enhance access to aphasia care and shared recent findings supporting its effectiveness. The team also discussed their ongoing research into the neurocognitive mechanisms behind recursive self-feedback.

Additionally, they introduced mirror speech entrainment, a technique that engages self-face and self-voice attention mechanisms to support language recovery in individuals with aphasia.

Through this collaborative effort, Imaezue and his students are advancing aphasia treatment by conducting cutting-edge research aimed at making care more accessible and inclusive, improving the quality of life for those affected by brain injury.
