Smoking Cessation

Did you know... smoking is one of the top causes of preventable death in the US?

When you meet with an SHS provider, he/she will ask about your tobacco use, if you are currently using, and assess your interest in quitting. It is ultimately your choice; if you're not ready, there is no pressure. If you are ready, your SHS provider will assess, advise, assist and arrange an individualized plan just for you to quit tobacco use.

Cognitive and behavioral strategies for smoking cessation are also provided:

  • Quit line information, community resources and educational handouts
  • Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)
  • On-going counseling for relapse prevention
  • SHS can help to arrange on-going support you may need to maintain your new tobacco-free lifestyle. Ask your medical provider during your next appointment, contact Wellness Education at 813-974-4936 or visit USF Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
