Travel Health

USF SHWC travel clinic provides current USF students, faculty and staff with the latest information regarding international travel. Our trained travel nurses perform a thorough Travel Health and Risk Assessment which includes a review of the following:

  • Medical history and medications
  • Immunizations
  • Required/recommend immunization and review of health risks of travel destination.
  • Precautions and prevention practices associated with travel destination including: mosquito intervention, water/food safety, other tropical disease concerns like Malaria, Typhoid and Yellow fever.
  • Pre and post travel precautions

Patients are financially responsible for all charges incurred at visit if not covered by insurance. 

Patients who are requesting travel medication prescriptions like, anti-malaria medication, oral typhoid vaccine and/or travelers' diarrhea mediation, will need to schedule an appointment with a USF SHWC medical provider AFTER their appointment with the travel nurse.

Vaccinations 
We offer most recommended vaccines including those below:

  • Hepatitis A

  • Hepatitis B

  • Meningitis ACWY and Meningitis B

  • Tdap

  • Flu/COVID (Seasonally)

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

  • Varicella

  • Yellow Fever

  • Oral Typhoid

We do not offer the vaccines below:

  • Adult Polio
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Rabies

Travel Medications
Travel medications are prescribed by a Licensed medical provider and will require an additional appointment after the patient is seen in the travel clinic. These medications include malaria prophylaxis medication, Oral Typhoid Vaccine and Traveler’s diarrhea treatment.


Plan Ahead

It is important to plan ahead as some vaccinations require a series of shots and must be completed a month or more before travel.

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Complete immunization records
  • Travel program paperwork (if applicable)
  • Your travel itinerary
  • A list of current medications

Check-in:
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment to fill out any necessary paperwork.
*Arriving late may result in your being rescheduled.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment:
Call 813-974-2331 at least 2 hours before your scheduled appointment to avoid a $20 no-show charge.
