Olukemi Akintewe, USF Engineering Professor, Recognized as an AIMBE Emerging Leader
Olukemi Akintewe, an Associate Professor of Instruction in Medical Engineering at USF, has been named an inaugural AIMBE Emerging Leader. Recognized for her advocacy for women and underrepresented groups in STEM, she leads efforts to improve retention and support systems for these students. Dr. Akintewe will be honored at the AIMBE Annual Event in March 2025 in Washington, D.C., where she looks forward to collaborating with other leaders and mentors.

Dr. Licato, USF Engineering Associate Professor, Awarded the U.S. Air Force Research Lab Summer Faculty Fellowship Three Years in a Row
USF’s Dr. John Licato, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, awarded U.S. Air Force Research Lab Summer Faculty Fellowship for third consecutive year. Recognized for AI research in natural language processing and machine reasoning. His fellowship reflects USF College of Engineering's ongoing impact in military-academic collaborations.
CyberHerd Member Leads Team to Victory and a $4,500 Prize at SHPE National Convention
CSE CyberHerd member Sanaan Fayaz Wani, a junior majoring in Computer Science, played a pivotal role in leading his team to victory in the Cyber Security Challenge, securing first place and a $4,500 prize at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National Conference, which took place from October 30 to November 3 in Anaheim, California.

CUTR 2024 Transportation Achievement Awards
The 2024 Transportation Achievement Awards were held on October 29. The transportation community joined together at the University of South Florida to celebrate excellence in transportation and planning. The CUTR event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and advocates to honor exceptional achievements that drive Florida’s transportation and infrastructure forward. Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport (TPA), was inducted into the prestigious Florida Transportation Hall of Fame.
