Bridging Generations of Scholars: USF Tenured Engineering Faculty Engage with New Faculty

On Friday, March 14, 2025, the USF College of Engineering hosted a faculty meet-and-greet in ENB 109, providing an opportunity for the tenured faculty to connect with new faculty members. The event featured a tenure FAQ panel, research presentations, an Academic Analytics demonstration, and a speed mentoring session. It took place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The tenure FAQ panel was led by Interim Dean Sanjukta Bhanja, Ph.D. (EE), along with faculty members Professor and Associate Dean for Research, Norma Alcantar, Ph.D. (EE), Associate Professor Kyle Reed, Ph.D. (EE), and Mr. Bernard Batson, associate dean for access and engineering workforce development

Among the tenured faculty mentors were Interim Dean Sanjukta Bhanja (EE), Mr. Bernard Batson, Professor KC (Kwang-Cheng) Chen, Ph.D. (EE), Professor Tapas Das (CEE), Professor Sarina Ergas (CEE), Professor John Kuhn (ChBME), Professor Simon (Xinming) Ou (CS), Associate Professor Kyle Reed (ME), Assistant Professor Maike Cai Wang (ME), Professor Yu Zhang (CEE), and Professor Norma Alcantar (ChBME), who joined virtually showcasing the power of technology in events like this.

We extend a warm welcome to our 10 newest faculty members, who attended, presented “Research in a Flash,” where they presented their research in "three minutes" and participated as mentees in the speed mentoring session:

  1. Assistant Professor Babak N. Safa – Medical Engineering
  2. Assistant Professor Ali Sharaf – Mechanical Engineering
  3. Assistant Professor Anshuman Pandey – Mechanical Engineering
  4. Assistant Professor Anshuman Chhabra – Computer Science
  5. Associate Professor Juan Borrero – Industrial & Management Systems Engineering
  6. Assistant Professor Guangjing Wang – Computer Science
  7. Assistant Professor Udit Halder – Mechanical Engineering
  8. Assistant Professor Zongqi Guo - Mechanical Engineering
  9. Assistant Professor Drithi Shetty – Mechanical Engineering
  10. Assistant Professor Ayyui Manawad – Civil & Environmental Engineering

Following a brief lunch break, special thanks to Tiffany Para and Donna Rock for organizing it—the speed mentoring session began. Ten tables were set up, following a speed-dating format, with 20-minute segments allowing new faculty to engage in discussions with tenured faculty members.

A special thank you to the panelists and faculty mentors who dedicated their time—even on Pi Day—to sharing their expertise. We hope they enjoyed a well-deserved slice of pie afterward!

The USF College of Engineering also extends its gratitude to Veronica Joe, Student Services Academic Services Administrator, for managing the program and presentations. Appreciation also goes to Tiffany Para, Program Manager, and Donna Rock, Academic Services Administrator, for planning the faculty luncheon, from food to seating arrangements—we couldn’t have done it without them!
