USF Engineering Students Receive Prestigious IEEE Awards for Next-Generation Radar Research

Two engineers from USF’s Department of Electrical Engineering have earned prestigious international recognition for their research achievements. Alecia Bechtold has been awarded the 2025 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Eugene F. Knott Memorial Pre-Doctoral Research Award, and Tasin Nusrat has received the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) Graduate Fellowship.

Both students conduct their research under the supervision of Dr. Stavros Vakalis, assistant professor of Electrical Engineering. Alecia’s work focuses on designing stable repeater circuits for radar sensing, while Tasin is developing innovative radar architectures aimed at enabling advanced detection capabilities.

Their research has the potential to transform wireless sensing technologies and drive advancements in applications such as autonomous vehicles, vital-sign monitoring, and air traffic surveillance.
