Professor Daniel Yeh, within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at USF, has been named the recipient of the Theodore Askounes Ashford Distinguished Scholar Award.
The Theodore Askounes Ashford Distinguished ScholarAward honors faculty members whose research demonstrates originality and significant impact. The award is named after Dr. Theodore Askounes Ashford, a founding faculty member at USF who helped shape the university’s natural sciences and mathematics programs.
Established in 2008, the Theodore Askounes Ashford Distinguished Scholar Award honors Dr. Ashford’s legacy at USF. The award includes a $1,000 cash prize and is open to full-time faculty across all USF campuses. The recipient is selected for significant contributions to intellectual and aesthetic advancement.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Theodore Askounes Ashford Distinguished Scholar Award,” Yeh said, “This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my research team at the Membrane Biotechnology Lab, the USF College of Engineering, and my family. I am grateful to USF Provost Prasant Mohapatra and the University Honors and Awards Council for their support.”
Professor Yeh’s research addresses global challenges such as water purification and waste resource recovery. With over $18 million in funding and more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, Yeh holds ten U.S. patents and has received multiple accolades, including the USF Excellence in Innovation Award (2014, 2019) and the Faculty Outstanding Research Achievement Award (2024). Yeh was also inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame in 2024.
