Inductees to the ASEMFL

Engineering faculty honored by ASEMFL for outstanding professional contributions

Three University of South Florida professors will be honored for their professional accomplishments by the Academy of Science, Engineering & Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL). 

Robert Frisina, distinguished university professor and endowed chair in the Department of Medical Engineering, Richard Heller, professor in the Department of Medical Engineering, and Ashok Kumar, professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering are among the top scholars, experts, and entrepreneurs in the fields of science, engineering and medicine who work in the State of Florida and were selected as 2025 members of the ASEMFL. Election to membership is reserved for those individuals who have achieved the highest recognition and impact in their field.

Robert Frisina was selected for high-impact contributions in bioengineering related to novel devices and drugs for sensory and nervous system disorders.

Richard Heller was selected for distinguished contributions to medical engineering, particularly for advancing gene electrotransfer for therapeutic applications.

Ashok Kumar was selected for pioneering research in the broad field of thin film technology of multifunctional materials for nanomanufacturing applications and for untiring service to the broader materials community.

The Induction Ceremony for new members will take place during the ASEMFL Annual Meeting on November 7, 2025 in Orlando, FL.
