AAEES Honored Three USF Engineering Students and Alum

Three members of the University of South Florida community were honored by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists for their achievements. Tione Grant received the 2024 EESF Scholarship, Bruno Mancini earned the 2025 W. Brewster Snow Award, and alumna Addie Buerck was named to the AAEES 40 Under 40 list. Additionally, Laura Gonzalez Rodriguez and her team won the 2025 E3S Design Prize, showcasing USF’s growing impact in environmental engineering and science.

USF Graduate Ademilola “Lola” Aderibigbe Launches Cybersecurity Career

Ademilola “Lola” Aderibigbe graduated from the University of South Florida in December 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering – information technology. During her time at USF, she earned honors through the Judy Genshaft Honors College, studied abroad in London, and conducted cybersecurity research in the Cybercrime Interdisciplinary Behavioral Research Lab. Aderibigbe also collaborated on technical projects, including a number-guessing game developed in a systems course. She is now launching her professional career in cybersecurity, aiming to contribute to the evolving tech landscape.

Joe Register Donates to USF Engineering to Support Student Innovation

In December 2024, Joe Register, Ph.D., chief engineer at AEVEX Aerospace and a proud alumnus of the USF College of Engineering, generously donated to the USF Foundation to support multiple initiatives within the college. Register earned his master’s in electrical engineering from USF in 2012. His contribution will directly enhance opportunities for students. The College of Engineering expresses its gratitude to Joe and Alicia Register for their generosity.

USF team improves water quality for stormwater pond

For years, Aarans Pond has been a dumping ground. A team from USF is trying to change that and improve the water quality. Aarans Pondis located off of Fletcher Avenue near 15th Street and was created more than 50 years ago to deal with flooding in the University area. Stormwater ponds were a common fix for low-lying communities. Learn more about the pond now in 2025.

Gelisa Evans, USF Electrical Engineering Recent Graduate Honored at Florida's Women in Energy Leadership Forum with Energy Scholarship!

Gelisa Evans graduated from the USF College of Engineering in the fall of 2024 with an undergraduate in electrical engineering. Before graduation, Gelisa received the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE): Women in Energy Scholarship, which led to a to wonderful opportunity.

Former Military Engineer’s Generosity Enhances Hands-On Learning for USF Engineering Students

The USF College of Engineering is excited to announce a generous donation of electronic components, including processors, capacitors, resistors, antennas, etc., that will enable USF engineering students to put a system together. The donation was received from Gary Rosenberg, a distinguished engineer with over four decades of experience in the field. His contribution to our engineering students’ education will create opportunities for USF students to gain hands-on experience that complements their theoretical studies at the USF College of Engineering.

Professor Emeritus Richard Gitlin awarded IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal

The 2025 IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal for exceptional contributions to communications and networking sciences, often considered the “Nobel Prize” for communications technology, has been awarded to Distinguished University Professor Emeritus Richard D. Gitlin, a professor in USF’s Institute for Advanced Discovery & Innovation.
