Tyler Hawkins

Institution, Major, and Hobbies
I’m currently a junior at Florida State University majoring in computer science with a minor in communications. When I’m not studying or working on projects, I enjoy playing basketball, exploring cybersecurity concepts, and learning about network infrastructure.
Career Interests
My career goal is to become a cybersecurity professional, specializing in threat detection and network defense. I’m passionate about protecting digital systems and ensuring data security, particularly in industries like government, healthcare, and finance where strong defenses are critical.
Why I chose to Attend the USF Making Waves Research Experience for Undergraduates
I chose to attend the USF Making Waves program because I’m eager to expand my programming skills while applying them to real-world research. Oceanography is a fascinating field, and I’m excited about the opportunity to combine computer science with environmental science. The program’s focus on hands-on experience and collaboration aligns perfectly with my learning style, and I believe this experience will challenge me to think critically and creatively. I’m looking forward to working alongside researchers and peers to explore how technology can enhance our understanding of marine ecosystems.
