USF business researchers ranked top 2% in the world by Stanford University

TAMPA — Researchers from the University of South Florida Muma College of Business are among the world’s highly cited scientists, with nine faculty members among the top 2% according to the 2026 Stanford University and Elsevier database.

Seven USF business faculty made the authors list based on their career-long impact in their fields of study. Two more were recognized for making a single-year impact in 2025 based on research citation metrics and other factors that measure the impact of a researcher’s work.

"Congratulations to these researchers for their exceptional impact on their fields of discovery. I admire their commitment to relevant research that advances the business profession,” said David W. Blackwell, the college's Lynn Pippenger Dean.

The rankings come from a Stanford University and Elsevier science-wide author database that includes over 240,000 top scientists classified within 20 scientific fields. The list included 244 faculty from across the university.

For their career-long and single recent-year impact, the following six business faculty were ranked:

  • Paul E. Spector, Distinguished University Professor, had 279 papers in the business and management field published from 1973 to 2026.
  • Anol Bhattacherjee, professor in the School of Information Systems, had 116 papers from 1996 to 2026 in the information systems field.
  • Sunil Mithas, a World Class Scholar and professor in the School of Information Systems, published 150 papers in the information systems field from 2001 to 2026.
  • Erwin Danneels, professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, published 30 papers in the business and management field from 1996 to 2025.
  • Alan R. Hevner, Distinguished University Professor and Eminent Scholar in the School of Information Systems, had 185 papers from 1979 to 2026 in the information systems field.
  • David Teece, the Distinguished Scholar of Strategy and Innovation, published 300 papers from 1971 to 2026 in the business and management field.

For a career-long impact:

Other single-year scientists for 2025 include:
