My research employs computational, experimental, and at-sea approaches to characterize the hydrodynamic behavior of underwater (unmanned or manned) vehicles in operationally realistic conditions, including low-speed maneuvering, close-proximity docking, multi-vehicle interaction and extreme weather environments. I carry out broad parametric studies across hull forms, appendage configurations, and speed regimes to determine the limits of predictive vehicle modeling. Physics informed characterization provides a foundation upon which vehicle autonomy, control design, and mission-level performance can be understood with reduction in trial and error of at-sea approaches. While my research spans vehicles across size, speed, depth, and mission class, from small survey platforms to large displacement systems, I have an in-depth interest in dynamic multi body modelling in the context of robotics.
