Courtney Coggan
Welcome to the Counseling Center!

My name is Courtney Coggan and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I have a Master's Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from USF. I am grateful for the opportunity to return to USF and give back to an institution that meant a lot to me while I was a student.  Go Bulls! As a native Floridian, when I’m not dodging hurricanes, you can find me enjoying the performing arts, discussing thought provoking television or movies, or making travel plans. I am an animal lover and enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  Growing up with both of my parents in the education field, I was taught to value the experience of learning and making your time in school an enriching one. I understand that college students have a unique set of challenges that come at a pivotal time in their lives and I consider it a privilege to be able to provide support.

My counseling approach is client-centered, strength-based, and collaborative. I create a compassionate and non-judgmental space that allows room to make specific goals in order to help guide our work together. I focus on identifying healthy coping skills and positive methods of problem solving. My theoretical orientation is primarily cognitive behavioral. I also integrate solution-focused interventions, motivational interviewing techniques, and I utilize evidence based practices. Therapy takes hard work and effort. Now is the time to put you first and know that you are not alone. I’m excited to take that journey with you.

Clinical Interests: My professional interests include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, positive psychology, mindfulness, life skills, stress management, interpersonal communication skills, relationships, eating disorders, LGBTQ+ population, and women's issues.

Approach to Supervision/Training: Competency-Based Supervision Model

Affiliations & Roles: I am a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association and the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association. I am a National Certified Counselor and a Board Certified Telehealth Professional. At the Counseling Center, I am a Liaison for USF Health and Career Services. Additionally, I am on the Professional Development Committee and the Brightside Crew.
