ABOUT MY RESEARCH

Hello everyone, my name is Bradley. My primary research interests reside in understanding chemical and biological ocean processes through the utilization of remote and in situ optical instrumentation. My undergraduate internship work at CMS, prior to being accepted into the graduate program, was in balancing field and lab work while utilizing optical instrumentation that I fine-tuned in the lab; this instrumentation was later deployed onto the West Florida Shelf to measure nutrients. I will be working in the Optical Oceanography Laboratory while pursuing my master’s degree under Dr. Chuanmin Hu.

WHY USF CMS?

I’m fascinated with the ocean’s optical properties and how these properties can give us insight into, and a thorough understanding of, a variety of ocean functions. My love of oceanography is interdisciplinary as it provides an excellent and engaging challenge to understand oceanic systems from a multitude of angles. I believe that the College of Marine Science was the perfect choice for me as there is a sense of community and collaboration between the various labs within the college. Dr. Hu’s Optical Oceanography laboratory not only combines an interdisciplinary approach to understanding ocean processes but also utilizes active collaborations with other labs in the College alongside other organizations outside of the college. Science is a collaborative effort, and because of this, I am very excited to be part of it within the College of Marine Sciences.
