Veteran Only Courses

The Office of Veteran Success offers TWO classes in the Fall and Spring semesters developed specifically for student veterans. These courses are designed to help the student veteran to successfully transition into the university, and to enable the student to successfully launch into a meaningful career.

1. SLS 3407: VETERAN SUCCESS COURSe 

Class permits: Wayne Taylor, OVS Director

This three-credit, discussion-based, experiential elective course is designed to facilitate a successful transition from military to campus life, as well as develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities crucial to success in both college academics and civilian employment.  Participants of this class must be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, the class meets weekly on Monday from 6:30-9:15 pm.

Resumes
Interviewing skills
Networking strategies
Career exploration and preparation
Identity development
Civic engagement
Academic success strategies
VA benefits
Financial literacy
Writing for success
Campus resources
Personal accountability
 

2. SLS 3308: VETERANS JOB SEARCH COURSE

Class permits: Wayne Taylor, OVS Director

This three-credit, upper level, veteran only elective, builds on the skills introduced in the Veteran Success Course, and provides additional skills necessary to transitioning into a meaningful career.  It blends classroom lecture, out of classroom events, and expert panels in order to prepare the student veteran to successfully navigate the job search process and secure meaningful employment.  Participants of this class must be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, and should be in one of the last three semesters of their degree plan prior to graduation.  This class meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30-9:15 pm.
