Transfer Student Room Selection Update

Transfer Student Standby List Information

At this time, all rooms designated for transfer student room selection have been chosen. USF Housing has closed the room selection process for transfer students and initiated a standby list. Initiating a standby list does not mean USF Housing is out of beds. Students can sign up for the standby list process in the Housing Portal. It is common for spaces to gradually become available as cancellations are processed and spaces allocated for special populations (like Living Learning Communities) are released.

The standby list room selection process will begin following the timeline below each week:

  • Monday: Email notifications will be sent to students eligible to select a bed that week.
  • Wednesday – Sunday: Eligible students select their room in the Housing Portal.
  • After Sunday Night: Room selection will close for those students.
  • Following Monday: The process will begin again for the next group of eligible students.

Standby List FAQs:

How do I join the standby list?

To join the new student standby list, make sure you have completed a housing application, registered for orientation, and paid the $50 application fee. Click here to join the standby list. For a step-by-step tutorial on how to join the standby list, click here.

If you do not wish to participate in the standby list process, we would encourage you to submit a housing cancellation request. Once you select a bed, you are tied to the terms and conditions of the housing contract so cancellation criteria will apply.

Please note: There is NOT a 48-hour grace period when assigning off the standby list. Therefore, when you select a bed, please make sure it is a bed you will be comfortable in for the upcoming academic year.

I am on the standby list, but I didn't receive an email... why not?

The size of the group going through the standby list room selection process will be small and based on the number of beds that are available at the beginning of that week. Depending on where you are on the list, you may have to wait a few weeks until we reach your name. Once we reach your name on the list, you will receive an email letting you know it's your turn to select.

What if I don’t select a bed during my timeframe?

If you have an opportunity to choose a bed and do not, we will move you to the bottom of the standby list. This way every student can have the best opportunity to be able to select a bed on campus.

If you have questions about living on campus or the standby list process, please contact our team at housing@usf.edu or 813-974-0001.
