USF will not offer the STARTALK program for 2016. 



STARTALK is a national, federally funded program with the mission to increase the number of Americans learning, speaking, and teaching critical need foreign languages by offering students (K–16) and teachers of these languages creative and engaging summer experiences that strive to exemplify best practices in language education and in language teacher development.

The University of South Florida is delighted to announce the fifth year of its summer USF STARTALK Chinese Academy for high school students and USF STARTALK Teacher Training and Mentorship Program for Chinese Teachers.

USF STARTALK Chinese Academy for High School Students

startalkMotivated high school students are invited to participate in an intensive two-week residential Chinese language immersion experience designed for non-native learners of Chinese. Instruction is offered at three proficiency levels: beginner, novice high, and intermediate. 

Participants earn three USF undergraduate credits in Chinese. Tuition is subsidized.

USF STARTALK Teacher Training & Mentorship Program for Chinese Teachers

The USF Chinese Teacher Training and Mentorship Program is an intensive professional development institute for K-16 Chinese language teachers. This residential program has a core two-week hands-on training program that combines with pre- and post-program professional mentoring activities to provide in-service K-16 Chinese language teachers and individuals interested in teaching Chinese at the K-16 level the opportunity to enhance their teaching skills.

Participants earn three USF graduate credits in Chinese Pedagogy. Tuition is subsidized.

The USF STARTALK Chinese Academy is accepting applications for Peer Mentors for the 2015 academy. Applicants must be in high school and must be native speakers of Mandarin Chinese with advanced levels of reading and writing.
