Alternate Start Term Options | Freshmen Students
Congratulations on your admission to USF as a freshman! Your qualifications were strong, and you should be proud of your achievements! While you may have initially applied for fall entry, admission to the fall term is very competitive. Because of this, we have admitted you to an alternate term (summer or spring) as we believe you will be successful at USF. We would love to have you join us in Bulls Country and have several options for you to consider. Please explore the opportunities listed below for your admitted start term to find the best choice for you.
Summer Options:
- Option 1: Enroll at USF and take two classes in the 6-week summer B session starting June 26, 2023.
- Option 2: Attend the USF-Verto study abroad program in the fall and arrive at USF in Spring 2024.
- Summer ACE Students: (Out-of-State Students Only) Engage in the Summer Academic and Cultural Engagement (ACE) Program
Spring Options:
- Option 1: Enroll at USF for the spring semester starting on January 8, 2024.
- Option 2: Take 11 or fewer credits hours a local university or college in the fall.
- Option 3: Attend the USF-Verto study abroad program in the fall and arrive at USF in Spring 2024.
Summer Term Admits
If you want to start classes in the summer at USF:
Option 1: Enroll at USF and take two classes in the 6-week summer B session starting June 26, 2023.
- Take six (6) credits of academic coursework to begin completing your general education requirements for a seamless transition into the Fall semester.

To start classes in the fall prior to enrolling at USF in the spring:
Option 2: Attend the USF-Verto study abroad program in the fall and arrive at USF in Spring 2024. You must earn a 2.50 GPA or higher in the fall to maintain your offer of admission at USF. Here's how it works:
- Attend a fully transferable, globally focused semester abroad at one of several international Verto locations to have a more rewarding first year of college*.
- Enroll in a curriculum (12-16 credits) that sets you up for unforgettable experiences and academic success in an increasingly global marketplace.
- Stay on track to graduate from USF on time while exploring the world with students bound for USF and other institutions*.

certain majors require the completion of pre-requisites to maintain your admission

If you were admitted into the Summer ACE program:
Summer Academic and Cultural Engagement (ACE) Program - Out-of-State Students Only:
Out-of-state students admitted to qualifying majors are automatically admitted to the Summer ACE program, which begins July 10, 2023. The Summer ACE program allows you to engage in six (6) credits of academic coursework during a 5-week session.
- Take six (6) credits of academic coursework to begin completing your general education requirements for a seamless transition into the Fall semester.
- Get to know USF and the Tampa Bay area prior to your fall semester-- you will be a pro at navigating campus before the fall semester even begins!
- Engage with the Tampa Bay community through community-focused activities built into the ACE program so you can get to know your home away from home!

If you were admitted into the Summer ACE program as it is reflected on your admissions letter, you are required to enroll in the program to attend USF in Summer 2023. You may not update to another option listed or the fall term.
Spring Term Admits
If you want to start classes in the spring at USF:
Option 1: Enroll at USF for the spring semester starting on January 8, 2024. You will not take classes in Fall 2023 and begin in Spring 2024 at USF. Complete your next steps towards enrollment:

If you want to start earning credits in the fall semester before attending USF in the spring, there are two options to explore:
Option 2: State or Community College: Take 11 or fewer credits hours a local university or college in the fall. You must
earn a 2.50 GPA or higher to maintain your offer of admission at USF for the spring
semester.
Option 3: Attend the USF-Verto study abroad program in the fall and arrive at USF in Spring 2024. You must earn a 2.50 GPA or higher in the fall to maintain your offer of admission at USF. Here's how it works:
