Room Selection: Spring 2021
After completing the first four housing application steps, you will receive a message via your USF email indicating the earliest date/time that you will be able to participate in room selection. Check your USF email regularly!
Step 2 (OPTIONAL): determine roommates
If you are interested in living with your friends next year (or you found a roommate in the USF Class of 2024 Facebook Group), discuss where you would like to live now so that you have all the needed information to select a room when the time comes. Learn more below in the Roommate Group Section!
Step 3: Explore hall options
Develop a list of possible buildings you wish to live in. As beds are limited in each building, you should plan to develop a list that includes multiple options in ranked order. Explore hall options and view hall rates.
Step 4: Select your room
You will not be eligible to participate in room selection until the first four housing application steps are completed. Once you complete the first 4 housing application steps, you will be able to select a room online from the available spaces. Please note that payments take 1 business day to process. Immunizations may take a week to process, depending on volume.
Spring 2021 Room Selection Dates:
Continuing student room selection opens October 5
New student room selection opens October 21
Room selection closes at noon on Friday, December 11. Spaces fill quickly and we encourage students to select a room at the earliest possible opportunity. After this date, housing applicants will be contacted by our assignments team to either secure a room or cancel their application.

A roommate group is a feature that allows you to create a group of roommates before selecting a room. By creating your group in advance, you can keep track of who is in your group and ensure that everyone is together on the day the room/suite/apartment is selected.
To create a Roommate Group, you have to have a 2021 Spring Only Student Housing Application that is ready for assignment. To join a Roommate Group, you must satisfy one of the following two requirements:
- Have a 2021 Spring Only Student Housing Application that is ready for assignment, or
- Be a Fall 2020 resident on campus with a 2020-21 ACE, 2020-21 SSS, or 2020-21 Student Housing Application
Members of a Roommate Group can view the status of their Housing Application under "My Applications" in the Housing Portal.
You will only be able to invite individuals who have satisfied one of the two requirements listed above. If you try to invite someone who has not satisfied one of the two requirements, they will not be able to be invited.
If all of the members of your Roommate Group are current non-residents, all that's left is to participate in Room Selection. Please note that if a Roommate
Group member's assignment status changed after joining the group (for example: Bill
joined a Roommate Group but his Immunization Requirements were updated to non-compliant
after joining the group), then they would not be assigned with the rest of the Roommate
Group during Room Selection.
If at least one member of your Roommate Group is a current Fall 2020 resident, then your assignment will be executed by the USF Housing & Residential Education office prior to the start of Room Selection (October 5th). If you have specific requests regarding the assignment of your Roommate Group (for example: Bill wants to be in room A, John wants to be in room B, etc.), you will need to email those requests to our office at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that USF Housing & Residential Education:
- Will not move currently-assigned students to a new room assignment in order to satisfy a Roommate Group.
- Will only assign a Roommate Group that has at least one current resident if they accept their invite in the Roommate Group Manager before October 5th, 2020. If the accepted members of the Roommate Group on October 5th, 2020 are only current non-residents, then the Roommate Group will need to go through Room Selection.
While we will do our best to satisfy your requests, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
When your Roommate Group participates in Room Selection (if applicable), the member assigning the group will have option to select the unit your Roommate Group would like to occupy, as well as the specific bed spaces each member will occupy.
No, the Roommate Group Leader does not have to be the one to assign your Roommate Group. We recommend that the Roommate Group member with the earliest Room Selection time be the one to assign your Roommate Group. That way, when they participate in Room Selection, they can pull the fellow Roommate Group members with later Room Selection times into the room at an earlier time.
Housing Application Cancellation Timeline
All cancellations must be submitted in the Housing Portal. Refer to the date ranges below for the applicable cancellation fees.
Cancel your housing application without penalty: Sept. 1, 2020 - Nov. 1, 2020
Housing applications cancelled after January 9 will incur no cancellation fees if the student does not have a housing assignment at the time of cancellation. If the student does have a housing assignment, the fee structure listed below will apply.
- $250 cancellation fee: Nov. 2, 2020 - Dec. 1, 2020
- $500 cancellation fee: Dec. 2, 2020 - Dec. 11, 2020
- $1,000 cancellation fee: Dec. 12, 2020 - Dec. 23, 2020
- $1,500 cancellation fee: Dec. 24, 2020 - Jan. 9, 2021
After January 9, 2021 - To cancel your housing application, you will be responsible for paying half of the rent owed for the remainder of your housing contract (if you are withdrawing from USF, you must appeal to obtain a lower cancellation fee).
