What drives sargassum?

Sargassum mats provide habitat for wildlife in the open ocean but can harm ecosystems and economies when they pile up on coastlines.

Cross-disciplinary researchers aim to unlock the mysteries of the sargassum belt and improve the forecasting and management of inundations. 

NOAA funds ocean mapping

The Center for Ocean Mapping and Innovative Technologies has helped pioneer approaches to mapping shallow, nearshore waters.

A five-year, $8.5 million agreement will power the work of world-class researchers at the Center for Ocean Mapping and Innovative Technologies.

Is the AMOC weakening?

Two recent studies by USF College of Marine Science researchers found no significant weakening in key parts of the AMOC, underscoring the need for longer observational datasets.
