Friends, family, and faculty gathered to celebrate 100 high-achieving Fall 2023 Honors College graduates who were recognized during ceremonies across all three USF campuses.
Joseph Ambrosino, a junior majoring in political science and history at the University of South Florida, was selected as one of three recipients to participate in the 2023 University of Bristol Black Humanities Summer Institute Program as part of the Fulbright UK Summer Institute Program.
At the age of two, Honors student Barbara Figueredo moved to the U.S. from Venezuela after her family left the country due to the political turmoil that continues today. Coming to America and learning English at a young age made her want to pursue an Education degree.

Over the past 10 years, USF has risen an impressive 43 spots among public universities from No. 88 to No. 45, and 72 spots among all universities, from No. 161 to No. 89.

A graduate of the college, herself, Lanier’s passion for mentorship and fostering curiosity both in and out of the classroom is what brought her back to USF in 2008 and continues to motivate her to create engaging programs for students at USF and beyond.
Graduates include a Ukrainian student who relocated to the U.S., an 18 year old and a student who is pursuing a career in social work after growing up in the foster care system.
Samuel Rechek, a Spring 2023 graduate and King O’Neal Scholar, has been awarded a 2023 Summer Fellowship from the Hertog Foundation in its political studies program — a first for USF.
Through his involvement revitalizing the JGHC Community Garden, Phillips developed a service-learning course and teaches as a peer educator about sustainability, beekeeping and urban ecology.
USF joins a prestigious group of the 71 leading research institutions in the United States and Canada. It is the first public university in Florida to be invited to join the AAU in nearly 40 years and is now one of two institutions from the State University System of Florida to serve as an AAU member.
