Arriving in Tampa Bay
Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) runs busses from the Tampa International Airport (TPA) to several locations around Tampa. The bus stop is located at the Rental Car Center, and you can view a full route map and schedule on their website. HART’s Route 275LX is a regional connection and offers service from TPA to Wesley Chapel, New Tampa, University area, and Downtown Tampa 7 days a week from 6:00 AM-10:00 PM with service every 60 minutes.
Shared Passenger Van Service
Shared passenger van service is available from Tampa International Airport (TPA) through a company called SuperShuttle. SuperShuttle offers curbside pickup with a variety of options and price points, and they allow advance reservations as well as walk-up booking. From Tampa International Airport (TPA), taxi service is available through Yellow Cab and United Cab. You can access both services at the curb outside of baggage claim. Both companies charge a flat rate of $2.50 plus $2.40 per additional mile. There is a minimum fee of $18 from the airport. The University of South Florida's Tampa campus is approximately 19 miles from TPA.
Several groups on campus offer airport pickup options to incoming international students and scholars, including Friends of Internationals and Students of India Association. Please note: oftentimes these options require a minimum of 2 weeks' notice, so make sure to make arrangements in advance. You may set up a ride by contacting these organizations directly.
Planning Your Arrival to the United States
Please note that new F-1 and J-1 students can enter the U.S. no more than 30 days prior to the program start date listed on their I-20 or DS-2019. Make sure to coordinate your travel plans to accommodate your orientation schedule, including any department orientations you plan to attend.
